Stites Presented at National Business Institute Seminar
Anthony Stites was a presenter at the National Business Institute’s seminar titled “Human Resource Boot Camp” on November 12, 2018, at the Hilton Garden Inn located on US 24 West in Fort Wayne. Mr. Stites presented on the topic “FLSA Essentials: Practically Applying the Most Recent Legal Perspectives.” He discussed the primary duties test, the salary test essentials, independent contractor issues and reviewing off-the-clock work and unauthorized overtime under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Mr. Stites also presented the “Hiring and Firing: Legal Do’s and Don’ts for Crucial HR Functions” topic later in the day. He reviewed crafting legally compliant job descriptions, what employers can and can’t ask about criminal backgrounds and credit histories, verifying immigration status, and terminating employees on leave. He also discussed the enforceability of non-compete, non-solicit and confidentiality agreements.
Mr. Stites has thirty years of experience in the area of labor and employment law. He represents business entities located throughout the U.S. on a full range of labor and employment matters, including organizational campaigns, employee discipline and discharge issues, workplace privacy issues, contract negotiations, grievances, arbitrations, National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) charges, complaints, Administrative Law Judge hearings, 10(j) injunctions, union decertification, and prevailing wage claims. He routinely defends employers in wrongful discharge, unfair labor practice, and employment discrimination cases before labor arbitrators, administrative agencies, and state and federal courts. In addition, Mr. Stites has extensive experience representing companies in union representation elections, union decertification elections, voluntary employee petitions to remain union-free, and strike activity.
